Sloan, John (French)
(2 ago. 1871, Lock Haven, Pa., EE.UU. – 7 sep. 1951, Hanover, N.H.).

Artista estadounidense. Trabajó como ilustrador de periódicos en Filadelfia, donde estudió con Robert Henri, A quien siguió a la ciudad de Nueva York. En 1908, en dicha ciudad él y otros seis creadores montaron una exposición bajo el nombre de grupo de los Ocho. Las pinturas urbanas realistas de Sloan dieron origen a la escuela Ash-Can. Obras como Domingo, mujeres secándose el pelo (1912) y Patio interior del Greenwich Village (1914) constituyen compasivos retratos de hombres y mujeres trabajadoras. Ocasionalmente, evocaba estados de ánimo de romántica melancolía.
